Current Status of Fiber Optic Communication Development in Finland

At the end of September 2024, fibre-optic network connections were available to 68% of Finnish households. In addition, 75% of households could opt for a fixed connection with a minimum download speed of 1 Gbps. Traficom has published new availability data as part of its situational picture on the. The Finnish authorities favour a competition-driven, fibre-based network roll-out assisted by public funds for underserved areas and advice for local municipalities on how to deploy digital connectivity networks. The Digital infrastructure strategy and Finland's digital compass support the EU's. This situational picture examines the availability of fixed broadband connections in Finland as well as subscription numbers and usage volumes. The data is mainly gathered from telecommunications operators. As of December 2025, 5G connections with speeds of at least 100. On 28 January 2026, the Ministry of Transport and Communications published an interim review of the project on security and new economic growth from communication networks, known as the TUUTTI project.
