Explosion-proof distribution box outlet

The outlet of an explosion-proof distribution box is typically located on the lower bottom surface of the box and uses explosion-proof steel pipes or cables for safe energy distribution.

Positioning and Installation

The outlet ports of an explosion-proof distribution box should generally be positioned on the lower bottom surface of the enclosure to minimize exposure to hazardous gases or dust, avoiding the top, sides, back, or door of the box whenever possible. For special designs, such as top-in/top-out or top-in/bottom-out configurations, proper sealing is essential, including tightening compression nuts and applying secondary sealing with explosion-proof cement. Wiring MethodsExplosion-proof distribution boxes use steel pipe wiring or cable wiring, with thick-walled pipes preferred for durability and safety.

Cables must be rated for hazardous environments (EX or ATEX certified) and resistant to flame, impact, and mechanical damage. The wire cross-section should match the rated current of the distribution box, with the conductor's allowable current capacity at least 1. 25 times the rated current of the fuse or circuit breaker.

For example, in hazard level 2 zones, power lines typically use aluminum core wires of 4mm² or more, while lighting lines may use 2. 5mm²; in hazard level 1 zones, copper core wires are recommended.

Safety Considerations

Ensure the metal enclosure is reliably grounded, connecting the grounding wire to the cabinet's outer shell. Follow schematic diagrams strictly and label wires clearly for secure terminal connections. Use cables and connectors specifically designed for explosion-proof applications to prevent sparks or arcs from escaping the box.

Regularly inspect and maintain outlet seals to ensure continued explosion-proof integrity.

Example Products

Some explosion-proof outlet boxes, such as the GUP214-TB, feature multiple hubs (top, bottom, sides, and back) and are made from ductile iron or aluminum with neoprene O-rings to maintain a sealed, safe environment. By following these guidelines, the outlet of an explosion-proof distribution box can safely distribute power in hazardous environments while maintaining compliance with safety standards.
