How to view IP addresses in an aggregation switch

You can check the IP address of an aggregation switch via its management interface, DHCP server, or controller software depending on the switch model.

Using the Switch Management Interface

Most aggregation switches, such as the Ubiquiti USW-Pro, have a management touchscreen or web interface where the IP address is displayed. On the front panel touchscreen, you can view the LAN IP address, firmware version, and port status directly. For remote access, you can also log in to the switch's web interface if the IP is known, allowing you to configure VLANs, monitor traffic, and manage ports.

Using DHCP Server Lookup

If the switch is configured to obtain an IP address automatically via DHCP, you can find its IP by checking the DHCP client list on your router or DHCP server. Look for the switch's hostname or model number in the lease table; the corresponding IP is the switch's current address.

Using Controller Software

For managed switches like Ubiquiti models, you can use UniFi Controller Software to discover and manage the switch. Ensure your PC and switch are on the same network segment, then add the switch to the controller using its MAC address and device name. The software will display the switch's IP address, port status, and other management details.

Additional Notes

If the switch is part of a VLAN or has multiple subnets, ensure you are checking the correct management VLAN to see the IP address. For switches without a touchscreen or web interface, you may need to ping the network or use ARP tables to map MAC addresses to IP addresses, then identify the switch's IP. Always save any configuration changes to the start-up configuration file to retain the IP settings after a reboot.

By following these methods, you can reliably determine the IP address of your aggregation switch for management and troubleshooting purposes.
