Wiring of Double-Row Electrical Box Distribution Box

A double-row distribution box is wired by connecting the main supply to the isolator, then distributing phase and neutral lines through RCCBs and MCBs across both rows for subcircuits.

Overview of Components

A double-row distribution box typically includes: Main Isolator (Double Pole MCB or DP Switch): Controls the entire incoming supply and allows safe isolation for maintenance.

RCC

B / RCD: Protects against earth leakage and electric shock by disconnecting the circuit if current imbalance occurs.

MC

Bs (Single Pole or Double Pole): Protect individual subcircuits from overload or short circuits. Neutral and Earth Bars: Provide common connection points for neutral and earth wires from all subcircuits.

Step-by-

Step Wiring Process

Turn Off Power: Ensure the main supply is disconnected before starting any wiring to prevent electric shock. Connect Incoming Supply: Feed the phase (L) and neutral (N) lines from the energy meter to the main isolator. From the isolator, connect the phase line to the RCCB input and the neutral line to the neutral bus bar.

RCC

B Connections: The output of the RCCB distributes phase lines to the MCBs. Neutral lines from the RCCB output connect to the neutral bus bar.

MC

B Installation: Mount MCBs in both rows of the distribution box. Connect the phase output from the RCCB to the input terminals of each MCB. Connect the neutral wires of each subcircuit to the neutral bus bar.

Connect earth wires from each subcircuit to the earth bus bar.

Double-

Row Layout: Typically, the top row is used for higher-priority circuits (e.g., lighting, essential appliances). The bottom row is used for secondary circuits (e.g., sockets, non-critical loads). Ensure proper labeling of each MCB for easy identification.

Final Checks: Verify all connections are tight and insulated. Ensure no exposed wires are touching the metal enclosure.

Test the RCCB and MC

Bs using a voltage tester before restoring power.

Safety and Best Practices

Always follow local electrical codes and standards. Use correct wire gauge for each subcircuit based on load requirements. Maintain clear separation between phase, neutral, and earth lines to prevent short circuits.

Label all circuits clearly for maintenance and troubleshooting. By following this sequence, a double-row distribution box can safely and efficiently distribute electricity to multiple subcircuits while providing protection against overloads, short circuits, and leakage currents.
