Standard Diagram of Greek Electrical Distribution Box Configuration

A typical Greek low-voltage distribution box follows IEC standards, featuring a main switch, MCBs, RCCBs, phase busbar, neutral bar, and earth bar arranged for safe distribution and protection.

Overview

In Greece, residential and small commercial electrical installations generally use single-phase (230V) or three-phase (400V) distribution boards that comply with IEC 61439 and related standards. The distribution box, also called a consumer unit, serves to: Split incoming supply into branch circuitsProtect circuits with MCBs, RCCBs, or RCBOsProvide isolation for maintenanceOrganize live (phase), neutral, and protective earth conductorsContain components safely within an enclosure with appropriate IP rating Typical Internal LayoutA standard Greek distribution box includes the following components: Incoming Main Switch / Isolator: A double-pole MCB or main switch disconnects the entire supply for safety.

Surge Protective Device (SPD): Optional, protects against voltage spikes.

RCC

B / RCD: Provides protection against earth leakage and electric shock, typically rated at 30 mA for domestic installations.

MC

Bs (Miniature Circuit Breakers): Single-pole or double-pole breakers for individual circuits, rated according to load (e.g., lighting, sockets, appliances),. Phase Busbar: Distributes the live conductor to all MCBs. Neutral Bar: Connects all neutral wires from outgoing circuits and the incoming supply.

Earth Bar: Connects protective earth conductors from circuits and the main earth connection.

DI

N Rail: Mounts MCBs, RCCBs, and other modular devices. Cable Entries: Top or bottom entry points for incoming and outgoing cables, with space for future expansion.

Wiring Sequence

For a single-phase domestic installation: Connect the incoming phase and neutral to the main MCB. Output of the main MCB goes to the RCCB input.

RCC

B output feeds the MCBs for individual circuits. Neutral wires from MCB outputs connect to the neutral bar. Earth wires from supply and loads connect to the earth bar.

Special loads may use double-pole MCBs, connecting both phase and neutral through the breaker.

A simplified internal structure can be visualized as: CodeCopyIncoming Supply (L, N, PE) |+--------------------+| Main Switch / MCB |+--------------------+ |+--------------------+| RCCB / RCD |+--------------------+ |+--------------------+--------------------+| Phase Busbar | Neutral Bar |+--------------------+--------------------+ | | MCBs for circuits Neutral connections | | Loads Loads | Earth Bar | Protective Earth NotesThe exact layout may vary depending on single-phase or three-phase supply, number of circuits, and protective device strategy. Greek installations follow IEC standards, so the configuration is similar to other European countries.

Always ensure proper earthing, correct breaker ratings, and compliance with Greek national wiring regulations (based on IEC/HD 60364). This configuration ensures safe, organized, and code-compliant distribution of electricity in Greek residential and commercial buildings.
