QSFP Installation Instructions for Access Switches

QSFP transceivers can be safely installed in access switches by following proper ESD precautions, correct orientation, and secure insertion until the latching mechanism clicks. Installing the QSFP Module

Remove the QSFP module from its antistatic packaging and remove any protective pads or dust covers from the optical connectors. Remove dust covers from the switch port where the module will be installed.

Hold the QSF

P module by its sides and align it with the port. Ensure the module is oriented correctly; QSFP modules are keyed to prevent incorrect insertion. Slide the module into the port until it clicks into place.

For QSFP-DD or QSFP28, push up on the handle or pull-tab latch to secure the module. If using breakout cables, connect the cable to the QSFP module first, then insert the module into the switch to avoid link speed negotiation issues.

Connecting the Cable

Align the cable connector key with the slot on the QSFP module. Insert the cable until the latching mechanism clicks, ensuring it is fully seated. Do not force the cable; if it does not slide in easily, check orientation and compatibility.

Only use supported cables for the specific QSFP type. Post-InstallationCover any unoccupied ports with dust caps to protect them from dust and debris. Verify the switch recognizes the module and that the port status is active.

If the port shows errors, check module orientation, cable type, and compatibility. Avoid repeated removal and insertion to prolong module and port life.
