Cfpx optical module

A CFPx optical module is a high-speed 100 Gb/s pluggable transceiver that converts electrical signals to optical signals using multiple CWDM channels for high-bandwidth fiber optic communication. OverviewCFPx modules are part of the CFP family (C Form-factor Pluggable) designed for 100G Ethernet and high-performance optical networks. They serve as transceivers, converting electrical signals from networking equipment into optical signals for transmission over fiber, and vice versa, enabling long-distance, high-speed communication.

CF

Px modules are smaller and more power-efficient than the original CFP modules, making them suitable for modern data center and telecom applications.

Technical Specifications

Data Rate: 100 Gb/s, achieved by multiplexing four 25 Gb/s channels (4x25 Gb/s) using CWDM technology. Wavelengths: Typically 1296, 1300, 1305, and 1309 nm for each channel. Transmission Distance: Up to 10 km for single-mode fiber applications.

Connectors: Dual LC connectors for single-mode fiber; hot-pluggable interface with 56-pin (CFP4) or 104-pin (CFP2) connectors. Power Consumption: Less than 6W, depending on the module type. Built-in Features: Clock and Data Recovery (CDR), Management Data Input/Output (MDIO) interface, and no external reference clock required.

Compliance: 100G Ethernet standard and CFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA),. Form FactorsCFP2: Smaller than the original CFP, supports 100G Ethernet, and is widely used in telecom networks. CFP4: Even more compact, optimized for data center applications with lower power consumption and higher port density.

ApplicationsCFPx modules are used in high-speed optical networks, including: Data centers requiring 100G connectivityTelecom backbone networks for long-distance transmissionEnterprise networks needing high-bandwidth linksInterconnection of switches and routers over fiber Key AdvantagesHigh-speed 100G transmission over fiberMultiplexing of multiple CWDM channels for efficient bandwidth utilizationHot-pluggable design for easy installation and maintenanceCompliance with industry standards ensures interoperability across vendors CFPx optical modules remain a critical component in modern optical networks, balancing high performance, compact size, and energy efficiency for 100G Ethernet deployments.

CFP Optical Module: Complete Guide, Types, and 100G Use Cases

A CFP optical module is a high-speed pluggable transceiver used in fiber optic communication systems to enable 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100G) data transmission over optical fiber.

C form-factor pluggable

CFP transceivers can support a single 100 Gbit/s signal like 100GbE or OTU4 or one or more 40 Gbit/s signals like 40GbE, OTU3, or STM-256/OC-768. The Optical Internetworking Forum in 2016 published the CFP2-ACO or CFP2 - Analog Coherent Optics Module Interoperability Agreement (IA). This IA supports a configuration where the digital signal processor (DSP) is on the main board and analog optical components are on the module. This IA is us
