Charging the Optical Time Domain Reflectometer

An OTDR should be charged using its specified AC/DC adapter or internal battery, following the manufacturer's recommended voltage, current, and temperature guidelines. Using the AC/DC AdapterMost OTDRs, such as the LinkU LOT-5100 series, are designed to be charged with an AC/DC adapter. The typical specifications are DC 12V, 3–4A or AC 100–240V, 50/60 Hz, 1.

6A. Always use the adapter provided by the manufacturer to avoid damaging the instrument. Connect the adapter to the OTDR's electrical interface, usually labeled as AC/DC Adaptor, and plug it into a standard wall outlet.

Charging the Internal BatteryOTDRs contain internal rechargeable batteries. For optimal performance: Use the internal battery for the first operation, then fully deplete and recharge it. The first charging session should last at least 4 hours.

Charge within the temperature range of -10°C to 50°C. Avoid charging in extreme heat or near fire sources.

If the OTD

R is idle for more than 2 months, recharge the battery to maintain its capacity.

Safety Considerations

Do not open or damage the battery. Avoid charging in unsafe environments or with incompatible adapters.

Ensure the OTD

R is powered off or idle during charging to prevent operational issues. Follow any additional manufacturer instructions for long-term storage, typically -20°C to 50°C. By following these guidelines, you can safely charge your OTDR and maintain battery health, ensuring reliable performance during fiber optic testing.
