Connect the main distribution box to other distribution boxes

To connect a main distribution box to secondary distribution boxes, you must properly route phase lines, neutral, and protective earth, using isolating switches and protective devices to ensure safety and reliable power distribution.

Step-by-

Step Connection Process

Identify Incoming Lines From the main distribution box, draw the three-phase lines (typically red, yellow, and green for A, B, C phases), the neutral line (light blue), and the protective earth (yellow-green) to the secondary distribution box. Ensure the main box door and body are connected with braided soft copper wire for protective grounding. Connect to Main Isolating Switch In the secondary distribution box, connect the three-phase lines to the main isolating switch.

The neutral line should pass through a leakage protector (RCCB) before connecting to the neutral terminal board. The protective earth line connects directly to the PE terminal board. Branch Circuit Connections Lead the phase lines from the main isolating switch to the leakage protector, then from the leakage protector to branch isolating switches.

Each branch isolating switch distributes power to individual circuits. The neutral and PE lines are routed to their respective terminal boards, avoiding entry into the leakage protector to prevent nuisance tripping. Ensure Proper Grounding Both the main and secondary distribution box doors and bodies must be reliably connected to the protective earth using braided copper wire.

This ensures fault currents are safely dissipated and enhances personnel safety. Verify Circuit Protection Use appropriately rated MCBs or RCCBs for each branch circuit based on load calculations. Ensure the main switch has a higher capacity than branch breakers to handle total load safely.

Follow the 80% rule for continuous loads to prevent overheating. Maintain Safe Distances and Layout Keep phase, neutral, and PE lines separated at a safe distance to prevent short circuits. Organize wiring neatly to allow easy maintenance and future upgrades.

Key Considerations

Phase Identification: Always label phase lines clearly to avoid confusion during maintenance. Leakage Protection: Do not route PE through the leakage protector; it can cause upstream tripping. Load Balancing: Distribute loads evenly across phases to prevent overloading and voltage imbalance.

Compliance: Follow local electrical codes (NEC, IEC, or regional standards) for safety and legal compliance. By following these steps, you ensure a safe, reliable, and maintainable connection between the main distribution box and secondary distribution boxes, suitable for residential, commercial, or industrial installations.
