Wiring method for distribution box terminal block

Distribution box terminal blocks are wired by connecting incoming and outgoing lines according to voltage and phase requirements, ensuring proper grounding, neutral connections, and secure clamping.

Incoming and Outgoing Lines

Incoming Lines: Typically, a distribution box uses a five-wire system: three-phase lines (A, B, C – usually yellow, green, and red), one neutral line (light blue), and one ground line (yellow with green stripes) for safety. Outgoing Lines: The wiring depends on the load: 220V load: Connect one phase line, one neutral line, and one ground line. 380V three-phase load: Connect all three-phase lines plus a ground line; include the neutral line if local control is required.

Special two-phase 380V equipment: Connect two-phase lines and a ground wire as needed.

Terminal Block Connections

Neutral Terminal Block: The neutral (zero) line is pressed and secured to the neutral terminal block. Grounding Terminal Block: The ground wire is connected to the grounding terminal block. In some cases, grounding may be omitted temporarily (e.g., construction sites), but it is generally required for safety.

Phase Lines: Each phase line is connected to its respective terminal, often via a circuit breaker, air switch, or knife switch for protection.

Wiring Steps and Best Practices

Power Off: Always ensure the circuit is de-energized before wiring. Wire Preparation: Strip the insulation (6–10 mm depending on terminal type), and if using stranded wires, attach ferrules for secure connections. Insertion and Clamping: Insert the prepared wire into the terminal block and tighten the screw or clamp.

Use a torque screwdriver for precision to avoid loose connections. Check Connections: Gently tug each wire to confirm it is firmly secured. Avoid overfilling terminals to prevent arcing or connection failure.

Labeling and Organization: Clearly label each wire and terminal block to simplify maintenance and troubleshooting.

Installation Considerations

Open Mounted Boxes: Fix the box to the wall using expansion bolts or embedded wood bricks for smaller boxes, ensuring proper alignment and stability. Concealed Boxes: Embed the box in the wall according to installation specifications, leaving sufficient space for wiring and maintenance. Environmental Factors: Consider temperature, humidity, and vibration when selecting terminal blocks and wire types.

By following these wiring methods and best practices, you ensure safe, reliable, and organized connections in a distribution box, minimizing electrical faults and facilitating future maintenance.
