Austrian cable tray type

In Austria, cable trays are available in ladder, perforated, and solid-bottom designs, made from steel, aluminum, or fiber-reinforced plastic, and comply with European and national standards for safe cable management.

Common Types of Cable Trays in Austria

Ladder Trays: These consist of two longitudinal side rails connected by transverse rungs, resembling a ladder. They are ideal for heavy power cables, providing excellent ventilation and heat dissipation, which allows higher ampacity for electrical conductors. Ladder trays are commonly used in industrial and utility-scale installations where long spans and high cable loads are required.

Perforated Trays: Also known as ventilated trough trays, these have a solid bottom with regularly spaced holes. They provide continuous cable support while allowing limited airflow, making them suitable for medium-weight cables and environments where some ventilation is needed without full exposure.

Solid-

Bottom Trays: These trays have a continuous bottom surface, offering maximum support and protection for sensitive cables, such as instrumentation or fiber optics. They are often used in areas where cables need protection from dust, moisture, or mechanical damage.

Materials and Standards

Austrian cable trays are manufactured from galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, or fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP/GRP), depending on load requirements, environmental conditions, and fire-safety considerations. All trays comply with DIN EN 61537 and equivalent IEC standards, ensuring safe, accessible, and flexible routing for power, data, and control cables.

Market and Applications

The Austrian market emphasizes high-quality, corrosion-resistant, and smart-ready cable management solutions. Cable trays are widely used in commercial construction, industrial facilities, energy infrastructure, and IT/data centers. Selection depends on cable weight, spacing, environmental exposure, and maintenance access.

Accessories such as brackets, fittings, and supports allow flexible installation on ceilings, walls, floors, or raised platforms.

Key Considerations

Load Capacity: Choose trays based on the total weight and number of cables. Ventilation: Ladder trays are preferred for heat-generating power cables. Protection: Solid-bottom trays protect sensitive or delicate cables.

Compliance: Ensure adherence to Austrian and European building codes and IEC standards. In summary, Austria offers a diverse range of cable tray types tailored to industrial, commercial, and data infrastructure needs, with a strong focus on safety, durability, and regulatory compliance.
